Rege Gallery, Tihany

Dániel Oravetz and I founded a gallery that has no walls in the usual sense: the works run on a Samsung The Frame screen inside the Benedictine abbey's orbit. Sacred space, profane technology — and it worked. In 2022–23 the programme became an official partner of Veszprém–Balaton 2023, European Capital of Culture.

What I love most about it is that I mostly show other people there. A painter, an actor who paints, a photo club from the Balaton uplands, a digital painter working through trauma. Ten exhibitions I curated for others, one for myself.

VIPACH — Vienna Photo Art & Creative Hub

It began as a Hungarian-language photo club in Vienna, under the wing of the Hungarian School. Within a year we had enough people, enough work and enough nerve to hold an exhibition. Then we opened it up beyond the Hungarian community and it became VIPACH.

It runs as a club, an exhibition platform and a school at once: regular meet-ups, workshops, presentations. ORF Volksgruppen has reported on us twice, which still amuses me — a photo club that started with six people around a table.

Hungarian School Vienna — photography programme

From September 2024 I run a Hungarian-language photography course within the Vienna Hungarian School, plus workshops and club evenings. Teaching does something strange to you: you have to say out loud what you have been doing on instinct for twenty years, and half the time you discover you were wrong about your own method.

Be Smart Kids Club

Free of charge, for Hungarian-speaking children aged 10–16: artificial intelligence, content creation, modern web development. The deal is simple — they learn it from me, and then they use what they learned to help Hungarian non-profit organisations abroad.

I grew up being told that the impossible is only a word. It seems fair to pass that on with the tools of this decade rather than mine.

Fundraisers that fixed real things

Portraits in exchange for donations, twice over. The first paid for the air conditioning at the Vienna Hungarian School — ORF covered it. The second bought a piano. There is something very satisfying about a photograph turning into a working appliance.

Art to Go

With OM SYSTEM and Starbucks we set up a charity art action: several artists donated work, people could take art home. It was one of those projects where the logistics were absurd and the result was worth every hour.
